STEPHEN HARPER – WHY IS HE SO POPULAR?

CANADA’S “INDEPENDENT” MEDIA
Is only one of the many issues affecting Canadians.  The Corporate Media  lies to you by omission.
The following is an article by a former New York Times journalist , John Swinton *1 who was asked to give a toast before the New York Press Club.  Even though Mr. Swinton died in 1901, what he states is true to this day.
“There is no such thing, at this date of the world’s history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it.  There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinion, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print.  I am paid weekly to keep my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with.  Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job.  If I allowed my honest opinion to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.  The business of the journalist is to destroy the truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country…for his daily bread.  You know it and I know it; and what folly is this toasting an independent press?  We are the tools and vassals for rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance.  Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men.  We are intellectual prostitutes.
Thank God for the few honest and brave journalists that we had back then and now.  An article by one of the good ones made it’s way to me and I would like to share his article with you.

“WHY IS STEPHEN HARPER STILL SO POPULAR”
By Jack Etkin from The Bridge – March, 2011
“First the corporations removed the Paul Martin government from power in 2006.  They did that by using their corporate media to create the ‘sponsorship scandal’ that Mr. Martin probably had nothing to do with.  The corporate media called it the biggest scandal in Canadian history, which was absolute nonsense.  They hammered away on it for months, and destroyed Paul Martin with it.  It is a very dangerous situation when big business can eliminate the federal government virtually at will.

The media then had Mr. Harper elected and he has given them a never-ending series of tax-cuts and corporate free-trade deals.   He has done everything Big Business could possible want in terms of environmental destruction with the TarSands and climate change, salmon farms, clear cut logging, removal of safety regulations, and everything else.  There’s been little or no criticism from the corporate media as he has done his job of destroying our plant in order to maximize corporate change; and we are one of the words in using and promoting genetically contaminated foods, which is a nightmare yet to come.  Mr. Harper is an enemy of the planet, so is much loved by corporate Canada.

He has given them the corporate war they want in Afghanistan, a war being fought over natural gas and pipelines and US power, while the media pretends it is all about democracy and helping women and children.  What a pack of lies, but they are good at spreading it.

Mr. Harper is very likely a war criminal.  In Afghanistan, he has forced Canadian troops to give innocent civilians to the Afghan police to be tortured.  That is a war crime, but it is never mentioned by the corporate media.

Last year Mr. Harper gave us the largest deficit in Canadian history,  over $50 Billion, all of which we are going to have to pay back with interest, but not a word of criticism.  That deficit was caused by tax cuts for the richest people and biggest businesses in Canada, put in place by Liberal and Conservative governments over the past 20 years.  Unemployment is up, NO CRITICISM.  Poverty and homelessness are growing NO CRITICISM.  Canadian soldiers maimed and killed, NO CRITICISM of the man who is keeping them there.  Australia is under water, but barely a mention of the words climate change or global warming.   People dying while waiting for health care; but NO CRITICISM of Mr. Harper who is allowing the destruction of public health care so it can be privatized and taken over by big business crooks who intend to make Billions from it; and this has been going on for the past 20 years under various governments.

Stephen Harper is a corporate prime minister.  He works 100% for big business; and they keep him in power to continue the job of attacking and selling out the rest of us.  It is certainly long past time to get rid of this traitor, but can we do it when corporate power is so very great?

ARE MOST CANADIANS GOING TO KEEP ON REPEATING THE SAME MISTAKE OF ELECTING EITHER PARTY A OR B?

ARE YOU BRAIN DEAD?

WAKE UP CANADIANS!!! – SPIN DOCTORS AT WORK

HOW MANY TIMES WILL YOU REPEAT THE SAME MISTAKE?

YOU KEEP SWINGING BACK & FORTH BETWEEN PARTIES A & B AND YOU KEEP GETTING THE SAME CORRUPT OUTCOME.

SPIN DOCTORS ARE HARD AT WORK IN OTTAWA TO ENSURE THAT
YOU KEEPING MAKING THAT SAME MISTAKE. “They” depend on it.
EXAMPLE: OTTAWA SUN FRONT PAGE NEWS:

“TORIES WAY OUT FRONT – HARPER HAS WIND AT HIS BACK:
POLL PUTS TORIES AHEAD BY 43%”. WHAT THEY DON’T TELL YOU IS HOW MANY CANADIANS THEY SURVEYED TO ARRIVE AT THIS 43% FIGURE. THAT INFORMATION IS HIDDEN IN AN ARTICLE ON PAGE 8.

THE ANSWER IS: “1,001 CANADIANS”. The IPSOS REID agency surveyed 1,001 people (notice they did not use the word Canadians) by phone and state “their national results are accurate to within 3.1 percentage points”.

September 29, 2010 Statistics Canada Estimate Canada’s population at 34, 108,800.
How insulting for Canadians. They (the mainstream media, their spin doctors and survey agencies) truly believe that we are either totally brain dead or totally lacking any intelligent form.

How can they tell Canadians that Stephen Harper and his Tories are what the majority of Canadians want. Did someone ask you? I wasn’t asked.
How can 1,001 people represent what Canadians want when there are
34,107,799 Canadians who were not asked that question.

Have Canadians forgotten that the Tories have not only lied to you, but without remorse “THEY” have MADE YOU AMERICANS.

STEPHEN HARPER, LEADER, CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT:

SOLD “YOUR” COUNTRY.
SOLD “YOUR” WATER
SOLD “YOUR” natural resources
DESTROYED “YOUR” BUSINESSES
DENIED “YOU” FREEDOM
DENIED “YOU” JUSTICE
Expanded government – No jobs for the white anglo saxons
Violated OUR Constitution
Confounded OUR laws
10. Seized private industry
11. Perverted our economy
12. Curtailed free speech
13. Weakened our national security and
14. Endangered OUR Sovereignty

OUR greatest treasure is OUR “freedom”. WE no longer want to have our hands tied. WE want the ability to think and act without the restraints that have been imposed upon us. An example is “OUR” Canadian Human Rights Tribunal that is presently under investigation because their employees felt that they were not being allowed to do their job.

OUR soldiers went to war and many gave their lives so that WE would have a FREE CANADA. It is unfortunate that, that work is not finished, yet you continue to lead US, the people of Canada deeper and deeper into your vortex, where you believe that we will never be able to get out.

The TORIES promised Canadians change when THEY took office, but turning the middle class into serfs is not the kind of change “WE” wanted. Examples:
Only the very poor and the wealthy have access to Legal Counsel and Justice
Only the wealthy have access to sufficient taxation breaks
Only the wealthy have sufficient funds to provide for the necessities of life without having to choose between feeding their family or providing them with electricity and/or heat.
The middle class is kept so busy struggling for survival that they have no time to go out there and defend “their” RIGHTS as Canadians.

When THE TORIES compromised Canada’s cultural, legal and economic institutions, “THEY” ensured that our children would never have the same quality of life that we enjoyed in the past. Through generational theft, THE TORIES are robbing the unborn of opportunities that they are entitled to because they were born Canadians.

BROKEN PROMISES

The following is but a few of the promises either made to Canadians and/or Jack Layton by the Harper government:

To put HONESTY back into our politics
Additional $ for Canadian seniors at POVERTY level
E.I. Reform
To restore DEMOCRACY in Canada
Transparency – NO MORE CORRUPTION

Michael Ignatieff, Leader of the Liberal Party
(on temporary visitors’ permit):

Ignatieff, in his opening speech to launch the electoral campaign stated that his Liberal Party had “Respect for democratic Principles”. How can Canadians forget that:

This visiting professor is leading the Party that accepted the explanation given to them by the Minister of International Trade, the Hon. Roy MacLaren when he was asked in the House of Commons by a member of the Reform Party (Diane Ablonczsy): “A woman by the name of Shelley Ann Clark who is an employee of the federal government has publicly made serious accusations concerning the free trade agreement, including a statement that the actual text of the agreement has never been disclosed. She says that the real agreement contains terms which limit Canada’s sovereignty over our resources”. …… *1.

MacLaren’s Response was: “Mr. Speaker, the allegations made by the Shelley Ann Clark were investigated by the previous government and found to be unwarranted. Our practices regarding privacy of information would preclude me from commenting any further on her allegations.”

The Liberal Party and its leader accepted this farcical response.

The Liberal Party and its leader found NO WRONG DOING that the perpetrators of the crime had investigated themselves and found themselves NOT GUILTY.

The Liberal Party and its leader did not follow-up and demand that CSIS and the RCMP do a thorough investigation. To this day CANADIANS ARE PAYING THE PRICE.

JACK LAYTON, Leader of the NDP “ a Leader you can Trust ”
NDP IS FORMING THEIR PLATFORM – MAJOR ISSUE: HOUSING

Jack is 100% Canadian and cares about Canadians.
Jack cares for OUR welfare
Jack wants to improve OUR health care system
Jack wants to help families in need
Jack wants to help our seniors who are at the poverty level

GILLES DUCEPPE, Leader of the Bloc Quebecois

Duceppe cannot help anyone but Quebecers. He has only ONE goal in mind and that is to separate from Canada and be the Head of his own country.
How can he possibly help Canadians in a “coalition” government when that would mean he would have to support what is in the best interest of Canadians when his entire goal in life is to get away from Canadians.

That said, if Gilles Duceppe ever decided to be a Canadian, he would make a great leader for the Liberal Party.

CHOICES YOU HAVE IN THE MAY2ND 2011 FEDERAL ELECTION:

THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE IN CANADA:

IF the middle class Canadian and OUR seniors wish to survive there is only ONE alternative. ONE CATCH: YOU HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AND VOTE.

I am reminded of an old saying:

“If someone lies to you once, shame
on them; if someone lies to you
twice, shame on you.”

VOTE FOR

JACK LAYTON

CANADIAN JUDICIAL COUNCIL: STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES

[Please Note: In today’s world of litigation there are a large number of Canadian citizens who find themselves involved in legal disputes where it becomes imperative to hire legal counsel yet for financial reasons litigants are unable to afford what is becoming a privilege rather than a right in Canada, that is, to obtain legal representation. For those who find themselves in this position the following article published by the Canadian Judicial Council is strongly recommended. If you are either a self-represented litigant or an accused person the information contained in this publication will be extremely helpful to you.]

CANADIAN JUDICIAL COUNCIL: STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES ON SELF-REPRESENTED LITIGANTS AND ACCUSED PERSONS*

Adopted by the Canadian Judicial Council
September 2006

PREAMBLE

Whereas the system of criminal and civil justice in Canada is predicated on the expectation of equal access to justice, including procedural justice, and equal treatment under the law for all persons;

Whereas the achievement of these expectations depends on awareness and understanding of both procedural and substantive law;

Whereas access to justice is facilitated by the availability of representation to all parties, and it is therefore desirable that each person seeking access to the court should be represented by counsel;

Whereas those persons who do remain unrepresented by counsel both face and present special challenges with respect to the court system;

Therefore, judges, court administrators, members of the Bar, legal aid organizations, and government funding agencies each have responsibility to ensure that self-represented persons are provided with fair access and equal treatment by the court; and

Therefore, it is desirable to provide a statement of principles for the guidance of such persons in the administration of justice in relation to self-represented persons.

*Notes:
1. Throughout this document, the term “self-represented” is used to describe persons who appear without representation.  The use of this term is not meant to suggest inferences about the reasons the individual is without representation, nor the quality of their self-representation, and recognizes that some individuals prefer to represent
themselves.
2. The Statements, Principles and Commentaries are advisory in nature and are not intended to be a code of conduct.

A. PROMOTING RIGHTS OF ACCESS

STATEMENT:

Judges, the courts and other participants in the justice system have a responsibility to promote opportunities for all persons to understand and meaningfully present their case, regardless of representation.

PRINCIPLES:

1. Access to justice for self-represented persons requires all aspects of the court process to be, as much as possible, open, transparent, clearly defined, simple, convenient and accommodating.

2. The court process should, to the extent possible, be supplemented by processes that enhance accessibility, informality, and timeliness of case resolution.  These processes may include case management, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) procedures, and informal settlement conferences presided over by a judge.

3. Information, assistance and self-help support required by self-represented persons should be made available through the various means by which self-represented persons normally seek information, including for example:  pamphlets, telephone inquiries, courthouse inquiries, legal clinics, and internet searches and inquiries.

4. In view of the value of legal advice and representation, judges, court administrators and other participants in the legal system should:
